 Rebekah Teal

 Rebekah Teal is an attorney whose practice focused in criminal and juvenile law. She graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga. in 1986. After earning her law degree in 1989 from Georgia State University College of Law, Rebekah practiced in a general practice law firm. She worked as a criminal defense attorney and was later appointed Assistant District Attorney. She has also served in the capacity of Associate Juvenile Court Judge. Rebekah has worked on the board of directors of numerous non-profit organizations. She was named Chair of the Domestic Violence Task Force at its inception. Additionally, she led Child Fatality Review Committees of several counties. Rebekah was a pioneer in the private probation industry, co-founding one of the first and most successful private probation companies in Georgia. Rebekah also holds a Master’s of Theological Studies and is a prolific writer. She enjoys training and teaching. Rebekah “retired” from practicing law several years ago, but remains close to the criminal justice system.

Matt Hester

Matt Hester was born and raised in Dahlonega, GA and graduated from Lumpkin County High School. Matt attended North Georgia College and State University where he majored in Criminal Justice. In 1995, Matt began his law enforcement career with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. In 2003, Matt received his certification as a general law enforcement instructor.

During his career, Matt has been involved with and supervised the Uniformed Patrol Division, School Resource Officer Program, Field Training Officer Program, and various K-9 operations. He has also served as a departmental Training Officer/Coordinator and Rangemaster. In addition to these duties, he has been the team leader and training officer for an agency Special Response Team. He has over 12 years of law enforcement experience and has held positions as a detention officer, patrolman, field training officer, shift supervisor, and watch commander.

Matt is Georgia P.O.S.T. Instructor with specialties in firearms, defensive tactics, tactical team operations, and D.U.I. Detention and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. He has also received extensive training in accident investigation and supervision. Matt has served as an adjunct instructor at a Georgia Regional Police Academy and has taught classes in various law enforcement fields across the State of Georgia.

In 2005, Matt received the officer of the year award presented by the Rotary Club. During his career he has also received awards of Meritorious Service, Career Achievement, and numerous other commendations.

Matt is currently employed with a Metro County Law Enforcement Agency that employees over 350 members. He is also a member of the Georgia Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, the National Tactical Officers Association, and currently serves as the Vice President of the Georgia Tactical Officers Association.
Instructor Matt Hester

Curt Garren

Curt was born in Canton, GA. and lives in the Woodstock area. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1980. In 1982, he began his law enforcement career. Curt received his first GA. P.O.S.T. Instructor Certification in 1992 specializing in Firearms.


During his career, he has been assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigation Division, and the Training Division. Curt was the Training Coordinator for 8 years and was responsible for the daily operation of all training for his department. As a departmental training officer, Curt received numerous Instructor Certifications in different fields of law enforcement including, Driving Instructor Certification, SWAT Instructor Certification, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Less Lethal Instructor Certification.


Curt is a staff Instructor for the Roswell-Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center and has taught classes at the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy, Georgia Public Safety Training Center and the Clayton Regional Police Academy.


Curt was awarded Employee of the Quarter in 2003 and Officer of the Year in 2005 presented by the Rotary Club. As well, Curt has received numerous letters of accommodations from his department and from the citizens that he serves.


Curt is employed with a metro Atlanta Police Agency that has over 200 employees. He is a member of the following organizations: Georgia Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, International Associations of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, National Tactical Officers Association, and the Georgia Tactical Officers Association.
